Jeff Bresnahan | Chairman, Lonsec Group

With over 38 years’ experience in the superannuation industry, Jeff has seen enormous change during this time. After more than 15 years working for and ultimately managing a number of superannuation administration and consulting firms, he co-founded The Australian Superannuation Group (TASG) in 1995. The firm rapidly grew to become the fifth largest consulting/administration house in Australia. He sold the business in April 2000. Since founding SuperRatings in 2002, the company quickly became recognised as the leading source of information and advice within the industry and remains in that position over 15 years later. During his career, Jeff has worked with Government Departments, associations, public and private companies both internationally and locally, as well as more than 80% of the top 50 superannuation funds in Australia. Jeff has been regularly sought out and quoted by the following media outlets: National Nine News; Today on Nine; Seven News; Sunrise on Seven; Ten News; ABC News; Four Corners; Sky Business News; Bloomberg; CNBC; Australian Financial Review; ABC Radio; 2UE; 2GB; 3AW; and most major newspaper, industry and online publications. Jeff holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration and is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also regularly asked to address the Trustee Boards of many of Australia’s largest superannuation funds.

Charlie Haynes | Chief Executive Officer, Lonsec Group

Charlie has a long and distinguished career in the finance industry, including exposure to systems, project management and management consultancy before co-founding Paragem in 2005. The Paragem businesses comprising Paragem Pty Ltd, a highly ethical and professional licensee for independently-minded, professional advice business, and Paragem Dealer Services, a leader in the provision of licensee support services to third party AFSL holders, were successfully sold to HUB24 and Netwealth respectively. Paragem was a client of Lonsec Research from inception and an early adopter of professionally managed portfolios and SMAs, allowing advisers and their clients to benefit from the expertise and resources of the leading research houses on a continuous basis, while enabling advisers to offer more efficient, systematised and less dependent service offerings. Prior to establishing Paragem Charlie was the Managing Director of FIS-AU, a funds management and life insurance software business, headed up the Financial Services and Wealth Management divisions of WorldGroup Consulting, and previously worked for Bankers Trust Australia. Charlie was also the Managing Director of Implemented Portfolios, an Individually Managed Account portfolio construction and investment management business. Charlie has a successful track record in developing conceptual business propositions, defining and leading strategic business initiatives, and operational improvement through business process re-engineering and technology implementation. Charlie holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Systems Analysis and an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning).

Libby Newman | Executive Director, Lonsec Research

Libby leads the Manager Research team of more than 25 analysts who collectively cover a diverse range of unlisted and listed managed funds spanning global and domestic equities, fixed interest, infrastructure, property, alternatives and multi-asset strategies. Prior to her appointment to this role in January 2018, Libby was General Manager, Income and Multi-Asset. Libby has more than 25 years experience in funds management and fund research and has been involved in research of fixed income and multi-asset funds since joining Lonsec in 2007 with primary focus on fixed income. Libby also serves on the Lonsec Investment Committee and Manager Selection Committee which meet quarterly to consider asset allocation and manager selection in model portfolios. Prior to Lonsec, Libby spent 10 years as part of the fixed interest team managing Suncorp’s insurance mandates. She also has experience in middle office, operations and investment performance systems testing and risk management at Abbey National (London), DST International (London) and boutique credit arbitrage manager Artesian (Melbourne).

Lukasz de Pourbaix | Executive Director & Chief Investment Officer, Lonsec Investment Solutions

Lukasz leads the Lonsec Investment Solutions Pty Ltd (LIS) business. LIS harnesses Lonsec’s broad investment research and portfolio construction expertise delivering effective and efficient portfolio solutions to financial advisers. Lukasz is also chair of Lonsec’s Asset Allocation Investment Committee and is a member of the Manager Selection and Direct Equities Investment Committees. Prior taking the CIO role Lukasz was Lonsec’s General Manger – Investment Consulting where he provided portfolio construction and manager selection advice to dealer groups, fund managers, super funds and private wealth institutions. Lukasz has over 18 year’s industry experience commencing his research career at ING Australia where he was Research Manager. Prior ING he worked for BT Investment Management. Lukasz holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and the CIMA designation. Lukasz is currently on the board of the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA).

Kirby Rappell | Executive Director, SuperRatings

BCom, CFA

Kirby was appointed Chief Executive Officer of SuperRatings in October 2017 and is responsible for setting SuperRatings strategy and ensuring we continue to provide the best possible Ratings, Research, Consulting and insights to our clients. He has worked to build a strong relationship with funds, service providers and key industry stakeholders to ensure we have a strong understanding of the market, and communicating back to the market where opportunities for uplift in value for super fund members exist. Kirby has been with SuperRatings since 2008. During his time at SuperRatings, Kirby has work as a Quantitative Analyst before becoming responsible for our Research team in 2011. Kirby has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney (Finance and Accounting) and is a CFA Charterholder.

Rob Hardy | Executive Director, Sales & Marketing, Lonsec Group

Rob is responsible for the Sales, Marketing and Client Services functions at Lonsec. He strongly believes that effective integration of the 3 functions is must for both sourcing new clients and more importantly looking after those clients that the company already has. The effective use of systems as well as employing and retaining people with service mentality is key to this successful outcome. Rob joined Lonsec in late 2018, following 7 years with Clime Asset Management, where he was most recently Chief Operating Officer. Rob has over 30 years’ experience in sales and marketing, across a range of industries, including the entertainment business, where he previously ran the International Direct Marketing business for Time Warner, up to and through the purchase by private equity group Ripplewood Holdings. Rob is well known in the marketing community within Australia and has sat on the board of the Australian Direct Marketing Association. He was awarded the title of Australian Direct Marketer of the Year in 2004.

Benjamin Elsworth | Chief Technology Officer, Lonsec Group

Benjamin is a Technology and Product strategist with an extensive career in consulting, finance, banking, and data, spanning across Australia, the United States, Germany, and Switzerland. He specialises in market-focused, data driven products, and process automation. Since 2009, much of Benjamin’s focus has been on introducing new products and companies to multinational markets utilising distributed teams. Benjamin believes in people-centric leadership and aligning personal and corporate aspirations. His extra-curricular research centres around applications of the Quality Teaching Framework and the importance of meta language in a corporate leadership paradigm.

Graham Parkes

BEc

Graham is Head of SMSF Engagement at Lonsec, and has overall responsibility for The SMSF Investor, as its creator and curator.

Graham has been involved with both financial markets and SMSFs for over 20 years, with a unique mix of experience across many facets of the industry including global macro analysis & investment management, but also SMSF technical strategies dating way back to pre-2000 when SMSFs were a much smaller segment of superannuation. Most recently this included 6 years as the Chief Investment Officer and SMSF Strategist at a boutique investment management firm, where the vast majority of clients were SMSFs. It is this unique mix of global macro analysis & investment management, along with SMSF technical experience at the coalface that provides Graham with the ideal background for the oversight of The SMSF Investor. Graham has a degree in Economics, majoring in Macroeconomics and Econometrics, and is a member of the Economic Society of Australia.
